Gayln Lee Sweet Obituary (1952

Gayln Lee Sweet, 65, of Bloomington, passed away at 9:39 a.m., Tuesday, October 3, 2017 on his property in Rural Carlock.A private family service will be held with a Celebration of Gaylns life at a later date. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to C.I.S.A.R. or friends are asked to plant a tree in Gaylns memory.Gayln was born May 2, 1952 in Bloomington, the son of Donald L. and Phyliss Terven Sweet. He married Mary Vollrath on September 22, 1979 in Bloomington. She survives.He is also survived by four siblings, Trudy Jones of Cooksville, Denise (Dan) ORourke of Greeley, CO, Shelly Rubenic of Wheaton and Todd (Stacy) Sweet of Normal; sister-in-law, Vicki (Al) Davis of Boston, MA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends; as well as his pets, JoJo, Mya and Sly.Gayln graduated from Octavia High School in 1970, where he was an outstanding athlete and held school track records for many years. He was a two time State Champion High Jumper and during his senior year was the 4th rated amateur high jumper in the nation. He attended the University of Illinois on a full track scholarship.Gayln was a vice president at WM Putnam Co. for many years. He was an avid outdoorsmanrnand reader and was a devoted husband, brother, uncle and friend.
