Dr. Frank Mathias

Dr. Frank Mathias, 70 of Virden passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 13, 2022 at St. John's Emergency Room with his loving family by his side. He was born February 3, 1952 in Springfield son of Frank and Mary (Morelock) Mathias, Sr. He married Susan Strom on September 3, 1977 in East Chicago, IN and she survives his passing.

Dr. Frank obtained his education at the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Iowa and started his own practice where he became Virden's Chiropractor for 46 years, helping numerous families. Dr. Frank was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Virden and loved wood working in his free time. From the age of 16, Dr. Frank played TAPS for Military Services at cemeteries and had served many families paying respects to their loved ones that had served our Country. His dedication was so outstanding that he was given an Honorary Membership of the Virden American Legion Post #386.

In addition to his loving wife of 44 years, Susan Mathias of Virden he is survived by his son Mike Mathias of Virden; daughters Jennifer Mathias of Virden, Heather Mathias of Virden, Lori (Justin) Rice of Rochester and 3 grandchildren, Braedon, Peyton and Brylee Rice.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Vicki Mathias.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon, Monday, June 20, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Virden with Father James Palakudy officiating. Burial will follow at Virden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass on Monday, June 20, 2022 at the church.

In lieu of flowers, his family asks that memorials be made to Virden American Legion Post #386, Virden Police Department or Prairie Land Ambulance and will be received by Airman & Calvert Funeral Homes, Virden who is honored to be caring for Dr. Frank's family.
