Delmar Lee Deatrick Obituary (1938 - 2016)

Delmar L. Deatrick, 78, of Bloomington, passed away at 12:58 p.m., Thursday, August 25, 2016 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.His funeral will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington with Rev. Jeff Windy officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy with military rites accorded by the Bloomington Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.Memorials may be directed to Knights of Columbus Council #574, Bloomington or the charity of the donors choice.Delmar was born May 19, 1938 in McLean, the son of Edgar Lee "E.L." and Lois Bishop Deatrick.He is survived by three sons, Delmar Lee Deatrick, II, of Bloomington, David (Larisa) Deatrick of Normal and Gregory S. Green of LeRoy; seven granddaughters, Sophia Deatrick of Normal, Nicole and Heather Gilbert of Normal, Amanda and Olivia Moore of Ft. Myers, FL and Elizabeth and Evelyn Arquette of Spokane, Washington; two brothers, Donald (Nila) Deatrick of Bloomington and Roger Deatrick of LeRoy.He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Deatrick, O.L. "Sonny" Deatrick and Paul Deatrick and three sisters, Barb Edwards, Margaret Spaulding and Charlene Burtram.Delmar graduated from Heyworth High School in 1956 and served in the US Army. He was a lifelong farmer and worked on the Illinois Department of Transportation highway crew for many years.He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #574, Moose Lodge #745 and VFW Post 454, all in Bloomington. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and being with his friends at the Knights of Columbus. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.Delmar was a loving father, grandfather, brother and special friend to many and will be dearly missed.
