Ila Bernice Andrews

Ila Bernice Andrews, 84, Dunlap, IL formerly of Clinton, IL passed away at 7:42 AM Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 at Fondulac Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, East Peoria, IL.  Memorial Services will be 1 PM Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 at the United Methodist Church, Dunlap, IL.  Funeral Services will be 11 AM Monday, Feb. 20, 2012 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with J. Kent Hickerson officiating.  Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton.  Visitation will Monday, 10-11 AM at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Dunlap Fire Dept.

 Ila was born on April 15, 1927 in Clinton, IL, the daughter of Oren Case and Beulah Bird.  She married William L. Andrews, Sr. on Nov. 27, 1944 in Maroa, IL. 

 Survivors include her husband, William L. Andrews, Sr. of Dunlap, IL; three children, William L. (Wanda) Andrews, Jr.  and Larry Eugene (Linda) Andrews both of Peoria, IL, Linda Jean (Richard) Glasgow of Minneapolis, MN, 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are two sisters, Arlene (Llew) Hoffman of Clinton, IL and Judy Kirkham of Maryville, TN.  She was preceded in death by her step-father, Oren Case; two brothers and four sisters.

 Ila was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dunlap.

Katie Brennan

Katie Brennan, 85, Clinton, IL, stepped into Heaven on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012 at 1:45 AM.  Katie was born Nov. 23, 1926 in Martin County, NC, the daughter of James and Sally (Sauls) Roberson.  She married Raymond Rogers on Oct. 9, 1949 in North Carolina, at which time they moved to Clinton.  Katie later married John W. Brennan on June 5, 1970 in Clinton.

 Katie worked at several businesses in Clinton, including Quimby’s Drug Store where she met John Brennan, but her greatest joy was taking care of children which she did for over 30 years.  Katie’s kindness, patience, and gentle demeanor will be remembered by all whose lives she touched.

 She is survived by three children: Diane Rogers of Clinton, IL, Kathy Cottrell of Normal, IL, Dallas Rogers of Decatur, IL; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  Her parents, both husbands, four brothers, a sister and a great-grandchild preceded her in death.

 Private graveside services were held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton.  A Celebration of Life service for Katie will be held at 3 PM Monday, Feb. 20, 2012 at the Family Life Center, First Christian Church, Clinton, IL where she was a member.  Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Clinton or to the DeWitt County Friendship Center.  Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton is in charge of arrangements.

Alice L. Rigg

Alice L. Rigg, 74, of Decatur left this world to be with her sweetheart on Valentine’s Day at 10:53 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 14, 2012) surrounded by family. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, with the Rev. Kevin Treptow officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta. Memorials: Decatur Memorial Hospital Home Health & Hospice Services. Alice was born July 12, 1937, in Quincy, the son of Tony and Goldie Bean Meador. She enjoyed watching home decorating shows especially HGTV. She married Stephen Ray Rigg Jr. on May 29, 1954, in Quincy. He preceded her in death Dec. 23, 2011. Surviving are her daughter, Sandra (Kenneth) McPherson of Decatur; sons, Stephen Ray (Dawn) Rigg III of Thomasboro; Scott Rigg of Decatur; sister, Linda (Larry) Beebe of Hannibal, Mo.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister.

Nancy Ann Thompson

Nancy Ann Thompson, 74, of Clinton died 5:59 p.m. Monday (Feb. 13, 2012) in Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with Jerry Huisinga and Mark Boehm officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton. Memorials:American Lung Association . Nancy was born Feb. 9, 1938, in Clinton, the daughter of Hobart and Lilian Crisop Bismark. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Clinton. She worked for Dr. Meltzer and Dr. Velu for 40 years. Later, she owned and operated N&L Medical Claim Services, Clinton, for 16 years. She married Thomas L. Thompson on Dec. 21, 1956, in Clinton. Surviving are her husband; children, Thomas L. Thompson Jr. of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; Mary (Rusty) Fenner and Dee Dee Rentmeister, both of Clinton; grandchildren, Brittiany Thompson of Kenney; Shelbi Rentmeister and Ashley Fenner, both of Clinton; great-grandchildren, Sierra and Kinzey Sickles. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Donna Garvin.

Doris Marlene Sugg

Doris Marlene Sugg, 76, Clinton, joined her heavenly father at 6:30 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 12, 2012) at Clinton.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with J. Kent Hickerson officiating. Burial will be in Mausoleum Park Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to DeWitt County Friendship Center or American Cancer Society.

She was born Oct. 5, 1935, at Edgewood, daughter of Burrel and Marie Hockman Denton. She married Leroy D. Sugg. He survives in Clinton.

Also surviving are her children, Charles (Fanny) Sugg, Kenney; David (Rita) Sugg, Tomah, Wis.; and Lori Marsh, Georgia; one sister, Joyce (Wally) Bertram, Vandalia; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, June Moore, St. Joseph, Mo.

Doris was a graduate of Vandalia High School. She touched the lives of many through her work at DeWitt County Nursing Home and the DeWitt County Friendship Center.

Glenn Guy Ingram

Glenn Guy Ingram, 90, of Clinton died 2:45 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 7, 2012) in Bel-Wood Nursing Home, Peoria. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, with Ernie Harvey Jr. officiating, with military rites. No visitation. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Passages Hospice, Bloomington. Glenn was born Dec. 1, 1921, in Louisville, the son of Edward A. and Argola Alice Banning Ingram. He was a World War II Army staff sergeant from 1942 to 1944. He was stationed in Germany and was awarded many medals serving his country. He was retired from Wallace Computer Services, Clinton. He married Dorothy A. Hofflander Byrum on Dec. 21, 1957, in Clinton. She preceded him in death Feb. 28, 1992. Surviving are his stepchildren, Thomas M. Byrne of Phoenix, Ariz.; Donna Oglesby of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; Pat (Dennis) Nuppenau of Peoria; brother, Bobby (Shirley) Ingram of Rio Hondo, Texas; sister, Betty (Leonard) Rickets of Mason; six stepgrandchildren; seven great-stepgrandchildren; one great-great-stepgrandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and three brothers.

Johnnie Mitchell Harrold

Johnnie Mitchell Harrold, 87, Wapella, died at 6:43 p.m. Monday (Feb. 6, 2012) at his family residence, Wapella.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Bill Vandervort and Tim Barbee will officiate. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, with military honors. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Wapella Christian Church.

He was born Dec. 8, 1924, in Wapella, son of Thornton O. and Marie Sunderland Harrold. He married Virginia Jean Dower on Jan. 1, 1945, in Miami Beach, Fla. She passed away Jan. 8, 1994. He later married Evie Strange on April 7, 2000, in Clinton.

He is survived by his wife, Evie Harrold, Wapella; daughter, Barbara (Howard) Horton, Killen, Ala.; son, Bob (Rose) Harrold, Wapella; five grandchildren, David (Cheryl) Foster, Tupelo, Miss.; Stacey Foster, Lake Mary, Fla.; Mike (Theresa) Harrold, Aurora; Eric Harrold, Kenney; and Joe (Hannah) Harrold, Crystal Lake; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Jones, Lake Mary, Fla., and Gage Foster, Tupelo, Miss.

He was a member of Wapella Christian Church. He served in the U.S. Army.

Johnnie was a member of the Wapella Fire Department and the Clinton American Legion Post 103.

He was a mechanic, starting with Rolin Hartman in Wapella, worked at Crang Motors in Clinton and was a partner in Thomas & Harrold Garage in Clinton and finally retired at Finfrock Motors in Clinton

Jerry Lee “Jocko” Monkman

Jerry Lee “Jocko” Monkman, 49, Clinton, died at 12:38 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 4, 2012) at Dr. John Warner Hospital, Clinton.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with Rick Bell officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, Clinton.

Memorials may be made to the Jerry Lee Monkman Memorial Fund.

He was born May 12, 1962, at Clinton, son of Ronald “Runt” and Ruth Ann Polen Monkman.

Surviving are his mother, Ruth Ann Monkman, Clinton; son, Jeremy Clayton Monkman, Clinton; grandson, Jalen Monkman, Clinton; granddaughter, Audrey Monkman, Clinton; girlfriend, Stephanie Honecker, Clinton; and sister, Susie Springman, Clinton.

He was preceded in death by his father, sister and two brothers.

He had worked at Anderson Ford, Clinton; Fisher Auto Body, Argenta; and Jim & Judy’s Country Store, DeWitt. He enjoyed shooting pool, fishing and boating.

Robert Eugene Thorp

Robert Eugene Thorp, 86, Wapella, IL, passed away at 6:48 AM Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012 at his residence in Wapella.  Funeral services will be 10 AM Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 at the United Methodist Church, Clinton, IL with Rev. Greg Courtright and Rev. C. Don Ferrill officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial park Cemetery, Clinton, IL.  Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday evening at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton.  Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church, Clinton, IL or to the Alzheimer’s Assoc.

 Robert was born on May 25, 1925 in Clinton, IL, the son of Robert Irvin and Fern Earnestine Long Thorp.  He married Betty Lou Wagner on Sept. 9, 1944 in Clinton, IL.

 Survivors include: his wife of 67 years of marriage, Betty Lou Thorp of Wapella, IL; 3 sons: Gary Lee (Linda) Thorp – Homewood, IL, Christopher James Thorp of Gibson City, IL and Kim Wagner (Jeanie) Thorp of Heyworth, IL; 1 daughter: Robin Rhea Mock of Wapella, IL; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.

 He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Clinton, IL.  He served in the US Navy from July 1943until January 1946.

 Robert retired from farming after 61 years and he had also retired from Wallace Business Forms.  He was a member of the American Legion and the DeWitt County Farm Bureau.  He was a former Sunday School Teacher.

 Robert was one of the first farmers to implement conservation tillage with no-till farming in the area.

Donald was born June 23, 1928 in DeWitt County, IL the son of James W. and Elizabeth C. (Clifton) Burk, Jr.

Survivors include 1 Son: Robert W. “Bob” Burk, Clinton, IL; Niece & Caregiver: Ruth (Dick) Vogel, Clinton, IL; 2 Brothers: Richard “Dick” (Mary) Burk, Wapella, IL; Kenneth Ike (Betty) Burk, Clinton, IL; 2 Sisters: Mary (Glenn) Eggleston, Mansfield, MO; Jackie (Paul) Parsons, Ocala, FL and several Nieces and Nephews survive.

He was preceded in death by his Parents and 1 Brother: James, Jr.
